Davidisms - Be Responsible, but Don't Take Responsibility

Are you dependable? Do you keep your promises? Honor your commitments? Accept consequences when things go wrong?

If so, you are a responsible person. Responsible people do what it takes to move forward in life with a clear conscience. They seek God’s will above all (1 John 2:17).

What’s something responsible people should not do? Ever? Take responsibility for the lives of others.

Others must live with their own decisions. If you try to take responsibility for them, you become an enabler. You are not responsible for someone else’s choices. They must make their own decisions and suffer the consequences - which is often the only way they will get well.

How then is it possible to love another without taking responsibility for another?

Through prayer. An encouraging word. Loving them unconditionally. Practicing the presence of Jesus for them. But not taking responsibility for their bad choices.

Do this today: Be responsible, but don’t take responsibility for others.
