Davidisms - Remember Who and Whose You Are

When I was growing up, I enjoyed spending time with friends, and going out on dates (when I could get one!). Each time I would leave the house, my dad would say to me, “David, remember who and whose you are.”

Pausing to do just that helped me make many wise decisions. Ones which honored my family and the Lord.

Who I am: A Chadwick. I represented my dad, my family, and our family name when I was in public. “Always remember this,” my dad would say.

Whose I am: A child of God. I represented Jesus, my Lord and Savior. It was no longer I who lived, but him who lived in me (Gal. 2:20). This was especially what my dad wanted me to remember.

When I recalled these truths, I made wise decisions. And I never embarrassed my dad or my Lord.

It’s a lesson I’m grateful to have learned at an early age. And one we should teach our children as well.

Always remember who and whose you are.
