Fear is Not from God

Fear does not come from God (2 Timothy 1:7).  Rather, he wants his people to enjoy lives free of fear and full of peace.  Power, love, and self-control should describe the life of a believer.  Fear should not.
 
 The great thief, Satan, came to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).  He wants nothing more than for a child of God to feel powerless and helpless.  To experience worry and fear.
 
 Jesus didn’t walk in fear.  His union life with his Father allowed him to face any situation in perfect faith, knowing his life was in his Father’s hands.  His life was filled with the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit.  This same Spirit is available to us as well.
 
 Once we receive God’s gift of salvation, Jesus is in us, and we are in him.  When we are rightly connected to Jesus, the Holy Spirit fills our hearts and fear should flee.  If we are joined to Jesus as a branch is to a vine, anxiety must be replaced with Jesus’s life-giving faith (John 15:5).
 
 How can we walk in fear if Jesus abides in us?  We can’t.  Followers of Jesus have no reason to possess a fearful spirit.  Instead, we use hisstrength – given to us through his resurrection power –  to live in complete victory and freedom as he did. 
 
 Jesus walked in trust.  In love.  Power.  And a sound mind.
 
 And so should we.
