Davidisms: You Attract More Flies with Honey than Vinegar

This is one of the countless, wise teachings from my mom. She reminded me of this truth often. It’s a simple truth many moms have passed on to their kids.

Here’s what she would say, “David, you attract more flies with honey than vinegar.”

Did you know that in the Bible honey represents God’s approval and abundance? It was greatly valued and sought after by the poor and rich alike. The prophet Ezekiel said of sharing God’s Word, “It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth” (Ezekiel 3:3).

Honey attracts people. Brings others toward you. They enjoy being with you.

Conversely, when tasted, vinegar is bitter and sour. A life immersed in vinegar repels people. It sends them away and out of your life.

Mom was simply teaching me that a life filled with honey draws friends! One soaked in vinegar does not.

Now, let honey describe you, not vinegar!
