FAQs

Who is welcome to join this retreat?

Current 6th and 7th grade boys and girls. A total of 22 middle schoolers can join this retreat (11 girls / 11 boys). We have selected 8 leader chaperone’s to be fully present and help carry out the weekend.

Where will middle schoolers be sleeping?

Boys will be sleeping on the top floor with adult male leaders and girls will be on the first and second floors with adult female leaders.

What is the cost?

$350 (+ any spending money for additional food or souvenirs). $25 deposit required upon registration, remaining due by 7/1/2025. Price increases to $400 on May 15th.

Will cell phones be allowed?

There will be no cell phones allowed as a chance for students to unplug. See our heart behind this decision in the note about cell phones below.

If your student has an extenuating circumstance that requires them to have their cell phone, please reach out to Michael and we can make arrangements. If you need to reach your student or a student needs to reach you, they can use a leader's phone. Contacts listed in the Adult Chaperone Contacts section.

Will extra cash or spending money be needed?

We will have one dinner out and students may have a chance to purchase lunch and/or souvenirs. We’ll be challenging and helping them budget for the weekend!

Are there lifeguards on the beach?

Oak Island does not employ lifeguards but has emergency vehicles continuously monitoring the beach each day. In addition, your student will be assigned a leader who will be closely monitoring them at all times.

How will the students be transported?

We will be taking (1) 15-passenger van as well as SUVs to Carolina Beach and departing from Moments of Hope Church. Students will be transported in these vehicles if we go anywhere that is not walkable.

How will I stay up to date with what my child is up to?

We will keep parents and family members up-to-date with updates and photos using this private Facebook group

*Note About Cell Phones:

Spring Retreat is a chance to UNPLUG! There will be NO CELL PHONE USE ALLOWED during the weekend and we advise that your student leaves theirs at home. If your student does bring a cell phone, be aware that we will be collecting them before they get on the van. Our heart behind this decision is to take away distractions and disagreements and allow each of us to focus on Jesus and friendship.

If your student has an extenuating circumstance that requires them to have their cell phone, please reach out to Michael and we can make arrangements. If you need to reach your student or a student needs to reach you, they can use a leader's phone. Contacts above.

Pre-Camp Meeting:

  • Wednesday, July 23rd

  • Around 8pm (after Avodah)
