This one is from my beloved wife, Marilynn. She decided to spend some time reflecting on what things in her life seemed to be robbing her peace. Stealing her joy. Causing her occasional discontent.

And here’s what she discovered: To live a life of peace in Jesus, learn how to fast from worry, hurry, and fury.

Fast from worry. Scripture commands it (Phil 4:6-7). One fruit of the Spirit is self-control (Gal. 5:23). We must learn to control our thought life. By giving our cares and worries to God. And then going about our day.

Fast from hurry. Learn to slow down and enjoy the moment. Most of life’s accidents are caused when we are in a hurry. But Scripture commands us to be still and remember that God alone is in control (Psalm 46:10). It’s our job to slow down and trust him.

Finally, fast from fury. From anger. The anger of man does not accomplish the purposes of God (James 1:19-20). Let God take care of your anger toward others. Leave vengeance to him. God always does vengeance better than we do.

The next time you’re feeling anxious, hurried, or agitated, remember this: To live a life of peace in Jesus, learn how to fast from worry, hurry, and fury.

It works. God’s Word promises it will.
