“Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lam. 3:22-23). What a glorious reminder of God’s loving faithfulness to his covenant promises! When I was growing up and going through a tough time, or even just having a hard day, my dad would say to me, “David, if the sun comes up in the morning, there’s always hope.” Dad taught me that God’s faithfulness is beyond measure. Incomprehensible to us on this side of eternity. He gives hope every day for those willing to seek it. It’s yet another of my dad’s wise teachings that Marilynn and I passed down to our own children. A gracious reminder that the same God who judges also restores. His unfailing love is a steadfast reminder of God’s covenant mercies toward his people (Lam 3:32). So tell your soul every morning not to be downcast! Instead, put your hope in God (Psalm 42:4). Every day is new. A fresh beginning. An unblemished start. Because if the sun comes up in the morning, there’s always hope.
