Davidisms: We Are All Pencils in God's Hands

“I am a little pencil in God's hands. He does the thinking. He does the writing.”

Mother Theresa penned these insightful words. She considered herself a “little” pencil, yet God wrote a large and magnificent story through her life on earth.

God’s hand is writing the story for each of our lives. An individual story written solely for us. Using our specific, unique gifts given to us by God. The author and perfecter of our faith has marked a race just for you and me (Hebrews 12:1-2). It’s our choice to run it according to his design.

God wants to use our story not only for our benefit, but for others’ benefit as well. As we persevere faithfully through our life’s journey - with our eyes fixed on Jesus - God uses us more frequently and more powerfully to impact his Kingdom. But again, it’s our choice to let God hold the pencil.

What does God ask of us? That we be like Isaiah when he said these simple words to God, “Here I am, send me” (Isaiah 6:8). God can use anyone with this kind of attitude. He can and he will.

We are all pencils in God’s hands.

Let him write your story.

For God’s glory.
