The eternal God of the universe wants to be your close, personal friend. He longs to be your light. Your salvation. Your hiding place. He yearns to have a personal relationship with you.

Your loving Daddy also desires to be your shield. The One to whom you turn for protection against your enemies. That’s what King David did. He recognized God as his ultimate protector, and called God “my shield” (Psalm 18:2).

Picture a soldier donning a shield - something constructed to cover the entire body. A defensive weapon that protects its wearer from harm. From weapons meant for destruction.

In the New Testament, this supernatural armor is often referred to as the “shield of faith.” Why? Because a strong faith protects us from the enemy’s flaming arrows. Even when “bad” things happen, God promises to use them for good (Genesis 50:20). To bring beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3).

Do you know God as your personal shield? Say to Him today, “Daddy, thank you for being my protector. My defender. My shield of faith. Though I may not see the enemy’s arrows approaching, I know I am protected in and by You. You see what I can’t. And You protect me from all weapons formed against me.”

The Lord God who rules over all is your personal shield.

That’s why there’s no reason for you ever to be afraid.
