Davidisms: Every Successful Marriage Demands Divorce

Every successful marriage demands divorce.

“What?” you say. Have I lost my mind? Fallen prey to culture’s lies?

Of course not. Here’s what I mean: Every successful marriage needs a divorce from self-love. Or said another way, the “me first” mentality.

In over 40 years of pastoral ministry, I’ve done a study. I’ve examined why spouses get divorced. Here is the major reason: Selfishness. Either by one or often both people in the marriage.

God’s design for marriage is Genesis 2:24. It’s a loving covenant where husband and wife are submitted to God and to serve one another (Ephesians 5:19-33).

Eliminate selfishness in your marriage. Serve your spouse. And watch your marriage flourish.

That’s because every successful marriage demands divorce from self-love.
