Do you live to get? Or live to give? God is the greatest giver in the history of the world. He gave his only Son for us to have eternal life with him (John 3:16). Do you give to God’s kingdom and others as God gave to you? Giving begins by opening our hands. The giving of our money. Time. Resources. It’s difficult for God to give to us when we live with clenched fists. Generosity was the mindset of the early church: “No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had” (Acts 4:32). This wasn’t socialism. Christians gave freely, by choice, of their possessions. It wasn’t mandated by the government. Or anyone else. The foundation for the church was built on the bedrock of uncoerced, generous giving. The very heart of our Father. Be a giver, not a getter. We aren’t able to receive God’s abundant blessings with selfish and miserly clenched fists. We must open our hands to give before we can receive (Luke 6:38). Imitate Christ. Open your hands. Sacrificially share. Live to give.
