Davidisms - Love is a Verb

What is love? An emotion? Feeling? Sentiment?

That’s how we describe being in love.

But real love is different. True love is a verb.

When you love someone, you express your love through your actions. Love is shown by things you do.

Imagine me telling Marilynn that I love her, yet never doing anything to please her. My mouth may speak, “I love you,” but my actions prove otherwise.

Jesus said if you love him, you will obey his commands (John 15:10). And one of his greatest commands tells us that we show we are his followers if we have love for one another (John 13:35).

Being patient with a screaming toddler? Love. Pick him up. Stroke her hair. Showing kindness to a homeless stranger? Love. Buy her a pair of new shoes. Your neighbor is sick? Love. Call and pray with her.

In obedience, show your love for Jesus by loving others well. If you truly love him, you will love those around you. That’s the proof of your love for God.

That’s because love is a verb.
