No matter whether you have ten kids or one, this truth remains the same: You are only as happy as your unhappiest child.

Believing parents’ deepest desire is for their children to both know the Lord and be filled with his abundant peace in their hearts (Isa. 54:13). Firmly rooted in God’s promises. Approaching life with a hopeful heart anchored in perseverance.

Yet our kids experience pain. Disappointment. Hurt. Trials. Troubles. That’s what makes parenting especially challenging.

Parents should be so connected to our children that we feel what they feel. It’s what happens when parents love their children deeply, as God intended. With a 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 kind of love.

This means we rejoice when they rejoice. We hurt when they hurt. This familial love is a gift from God. It’s how God ordered his world - to make sure we continue to always love deeply.

Nine kids can be happy. But if one isn’t, the parents surely won’t be. Our Father in heaven ordered it this way.

Because you are only as happy as your unhappiest child.
