Davidisms: You Find Yourself When You Lose Yourself in Something Greater Than Yourself

In a world where everyone is trying to find themselves, here is a simple teaching from Jesus that addresses just that. “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25).

You find your life’s meaning by serving others. By being a part of a cause that is greater than yourself. By seeking first God’s kingdom. When our priorities are in this correct order - Jesus, others, self - we’re able to experience an abundant life in and through Christ (Matthew 6:33).

Jesus reiterated this teaching when he said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:25). He knew firsthand that givers are much happier than misers!

Find a cause that is advancing God’s kingdom. Something that is bringing good to this world. Give yourself to it. And you will find meaning in your life.

For you find yourself when you lose yourself in something greater than yourself.
