King David knew God as his portion. The same God who David worshipped wants to be your portion as well (Psalm 119:57).

A portion is defined as a “specific share of money, property, or estate allocated to an heir or child.” Biblically, the term “portion” means “inheritance.” It is a promise of security that your loving Daddy will take care of you, protect you, and provide for you forever.

Our inheritance from the Lord is a grace gift, freely given to all of his children. Why? Because he has welcomed us into his family, adopted us into his kingdom, and claimed us as his own. Therefore, we have a divine right to this portion or inheritance.

John 1:12 says this of those who follow Jesus: “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

Adoption cannot be earned. God has chosen to adopt his children simply because he wants to become our loving Daddy. His decision to save the world guarantees our portion - our inheritance. We are guaranteed promises on this side of eternity as we sojourn to our final destination. And we are guaranteed eternal life with Jesus, which should give us something wonderful to look forward to.

Have you received an understanding of the Lord as your portion? Do you know of your inheritance from your personal God?

Today, say to him, “Daddy, thank you for promising me an inheritance. Every spiritual blessing in this world is guaranteed to me as your child. I have eternity in heaven with you to look forward to! My sins are forgiven! I will dwell in your house forever!”

Your Daddy in heaven has a huge inheritance awaiting you.

That’s why you can call him “my portion.”
