God Works Through You You are the body of Christ in the world. You are his hands, feet, eyes, and ears. Your touch is his touch. Your help is his help. Your life is his life. And Jesus wants his life to flow through you into the world. In Isaiah 58, we read about how the Israelites became frustrated with God. They were worshipping him and fasting, yet they felt their prayers were not going any higher than the ceiling. They were becoming increasingly anxious and despondent. They cried out to God and asked him what was happening. God said that if the Jews would practice being his hands and feet, letting him flow through them, “then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard” (verse 8). God then repeated this truth in a different way. He said, “If you pour out yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday” (verse 10). Do you see what God is saying? If you give your life away, care for others, and let God’s life flow through you to others, then your own darkness and gloom will go away like the noonday sun driving away dark clouds. When you reach out to others amid your own anxiety, perhaps you will find that your own problems aren’t so severe. Find a way to serve others hurting from the impact of the coronavirus, and see if your own worries aren’t lifted. God said that a cure for anxiety is letting his life flow through you to others – especially when you meet the needs of the poor. Ponder the preposition through. Ask yourself how much you are serving others. Then go find yourself by losing yourself in something greater than yourself. Give your life away to someone in need. And watch your anxiety melt in the presence of God’s grace.
