The Marks of a Christian - Be Fervent in Spirit

Does your life have outward marks that reflect your inward convictions? If you are a follower of Jesus, it should.

Another mark of a Christian? “Be fervent in Spirit” (Romans 12:11b).

Fervent implies passion.  Zeal.  Commitment.  Focus.  A refusal to give up.  An innate desire to continue Christ’s work on earth - no matter the obstacles before us, or the cost we may have to pay.

How do we become ferventin Spirit?

It happens naturally during our rebirth in Christ. When we are baptized in the Spirit, fervor is birthed in our hearts. Because it is then that the redeeming work of Jesus within us supernaturally releases a fervent spirit to begin working through us (John 3:3).

We are also fervent in prayer (James 5:16). When we pray with passion, we see amazing answers to our prayers. The Spirit works with miraculous power.

And we are fervent in doing good works. In loving our neighbor. The Spirit gives us the energy to love others as we love ourselves.

Jesus was fervent for us - even to the point of death on a cross.

Are you fervent for Jesus?  His Spirit?

For His kingdom?
