Have you noticed in our culture that love is based on how we perform?
Look at jobs tied to performance evaluations. Ratings and rankings. Regular polls. Of presidents. Sports teams. Athletes.
It’s a quid pro quo kind of love in America. As long as you can give me something for how I perform, then you’ll get love from me.
Sadly, this mentality often spills over into our personal lives. Our homes. Marriages. Parenting. Even our friendships.
But God’s love is not based on our performance. It never was and it never will be.
God’s love is extraordinary because it’s unconditional. Our Daddy never considered our performance. His love for us was birthed solely from his heart of grace. While we were still sinners, Jesus died for us (Rom. 5:8). He didn’t wait for us to first perform well to shower his love on us..
God’s love for us is not based on our performance.
Let’s now love others as Jesus has loved us.
