What is Jesus’s divine order for his followers’ faith to work? You do and I will.

Note the order. Commit it to memory. First, we do. Then, Jesus will. Do. Will.

Our human brains are inclined to embrace this backwards mentality: “Jesus, if you first do (fill in the blank), then I will (fill in the blank).” We’ve all done it at some time or another. As did Jesus’ disciples (Matthew 14:22-33).

We say: “If you do the miracle, then I’ll believe.”

Jesus says, “If you just believe, then I’ll do the miracle.”

We say: “If you calm the waves, then we will get out of the boat.”

Jesus says: “Get out of the boat, then I’ll calm the waves.”

Without faith it’s impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Where do you need to take that first step? Get out of the boat? Move toward Jesus?

You do…then see if God will.
