Five Minutes After You Die: Heaven is our Home

I hope you have enjoyed thinking about eternity and considering the realities of what is to come for followers of Jesus Christ. I want to close out this series by leaving room to truly reflect on this promised reality and embrace the glorious message of the gospel.

As the famous Gospel artist Andrae Crouch sang, “Soon and very soon, we are going to see the King.”

Soon and very soon, we will live forever in a new heaven and a new earth (Revelation 21).

Soon and very soon, God will remove all of the sin that has stained this earth! Heaven will have no sinful memories and no stench of Satan’s presence! EVERYTHING will be perfect! What a glorious day this will be!

C.S. Lewis once said, “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” That should be our attitude toward what will happen five minutes after we die. We will be living in the world for which we were always made!

So many animals have homing signals to navigate a return to their home territory. The same is true for humans. A longing within the human heart for a permanent home with no more hurts, difficulties, trials, and tribulations is natural! I think even grief over the loss of a loved one is a homing signal from God that continually shouts to us that this place, in its present brokenness, is not our home. Heaven is our true home.

Dear friends, we were created for unbroken communion with God in a perfect body in a special place… FOREVER! Please trust in Jesus today. Give your life to him. Know his forgiveness today and forever. And begin to look forward, with eager expectation, to the glorious reality that will happen when you die. It will be an adventure like no other. You should look forward to it!

As David promised in Psalm 23, “And we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

To Jesus alone and always belongs all the glory!
