King David knew God in a personal way. When looking through the book of Psalms, it is so evident that his relationship with the Lord knew God as creator, father, and friend. The eternal God of the universe wants a close and personal relationship with you, too. He longs to be your refuge. Your song. Your portion.

God also wants to be your light. In Psalm 27:1, King David said, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” In that moment, David proclaimed his confidence in God as his light - the source of all goodness and guidance.

The Bible talks about God’s children walking in the light, which means walking in life, truth and wholeness. God’s light is interchangeable with truth. When we turn to God as our light, we end up walking in His truth.

When moral darkness is before you, you turn about-face toward the light of God. Living in his light brings clarity, wisdom, discernment, and eternal perspective amidst the fogginess of this broken world.

God’s ways are the ultimate North Star and understanding him as your personal “light” brings so much peace. As you stand in his light, you become more fully aware that his ways and his thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Do you know the Lord personally as the light of your life? If not, pray to him today: “Daddy in heaven, lead me to know you as my light. When I feel unsafe or unsure, show me the next step to take. You are my personal God and I trust you. Help me live in your light all the days of my life.”

Read the Word of God. It is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Walk closely with Jesus, for he is the light of the world (John 8:12).

When the Lord is guiding your steps, you will neither stumble nor slip.
